Dordrecht in 100 years: Fast forward exhibition
Looking and listening to the future of the city. What will Dordrecht look like in 100 years?
Eleven artists were commissioned by Pictura to start a research around this question. The EFL supported this project financially because of its strong support for current issues in urban planning and life in the city.
Each artist approaches the question posed above on the basis of his own ideas and experiences. Where one artist deals with the disappearing nature in the city, another looks at the developments in the field of urban planning or at the future of society. In eleven new works, five city walks, a publication and a self-designed 3D application, the artists take you into this future world. In 2021, Dordrecht will celebrate 800 years of city rights. This makes Dordrecht the oldest city in present-day Holland. A special reason not only to look back, but also to look forward. Dordrecht has changed a great deal in 800 years, because a city cannot remain the same for centuries; it is always subject to change. But what will Dordrecht look like in a hundred years? Take the concerns that are expressed about climate change. Think of the rising water levels in a city that is surrounded by water, how will Dordrecht deal with this? Can the city be made resilient and safe for the future?
Pictura asked eleven artists to shed their light on these questions and to create new work about them. In the exhibition 'Fast Forward. Dordrecht in 100 years' we see alternative solutions for contemporary problems.Participating artists: Ad Koomans, Art van Triest, Anna Berendsen, Jolande Vermeulen, Menno Hiele, Annemieke Alberts, Manuela Porceddu, Daniel Arthuus, Léon van Kuijk, Ralf Kokke & Yvo van der Vat.
The exhibition opened on 5 June and will be on display at Pictura Dordrecht until 17 July.
