Performative Launch - Shallow Waters: Shifting geographies of two extreme urban deltas

Onomatopee and Bureau LADA cordially invite you to celebrate the launch of the publication Onomatopee Z0038 Shallow Waters: Shifting geographies of two extreme urban deltas. Programme with an animated discussion between the participants, exhibition and performances on Sunday 21 November 2021 from 14:00 - 17:00 at Onomatopee.

Speakers: Dr Harm van der Geest (Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, UvA), Wim van Egmond (artist and microphotographer) and De Onkruidenier (artists' collective).

Shallow Waters explores two extreme cases of urbanised shallow water areas - Markermeer/IJsselmeer in the heart of the Netherlands and the Venetian Lagoon. This publication is developed as part of the Parallel Programme to the Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021, designed by Haller Brun and supported by Dutch Creative Industries Fund, Het Nieuwe Instituut, and the EFL Foundation.

During the Performative Launch, ideas and experiences gained from the research for the publication will be presented to the public in a spatial installation with microphotos, drawings, models and animation. We will be introduced to freshwater micro-organisms by live projection through the lens of Wim van Egmond's microscope. Dr Harm van der Geest (IBED - UvA) and Alice Smits (Zone2Source) will have an animated conversation about multispecies empathy with project initiator and editor Lada Hršak and her Bureau LADA colleague architect Ludovica Beltrami. Artist collective De Onkruidenier will address the relationship between ecologies and economies and will show a tasting of a foam landscape in their performance CryptoFoam.
