'City to Dust' at the Venice Biennale

Next May 19, 2021, the Venice Architecture Biennale will start, and this edition will take place both physically and online. This is the Biennale of 2020 postponed due to Corona. In Venice, the installation 'City to Dust', designed by Studio LA, will be exhibited, which has been made possible with the support of the EFL Foundation. The floor installation 'City to Dust' will not only leave a mental impact on the visitor, but the visitor will also leave a physical impact on the work. City to Dust' is a project in which the visitor comes into physical contact with the installation: A floor consisting of the map of Venice made of very fragile terrazzo tiles. The visitor confronts the work and literally leaves her traces in the floor, which is porous and will break or be damaged by touch. Every step will leave cracks in the map. In this way, the individual becomes more aware of her own impact on the city. The physical traces in the floor confirm the presence of each individual.

The Van Eesteren-Fluck & Van Lohuizen Foundation subsidises the development of urban design, planning and landscape architecture. The way in which Studio LA, with their installation 'City to Dust', makes the impact of the citizen on the city visible, appeals greatly to EFL.
