Exhibition about the AUP
On 17 March 2017, an exhibition on the General Expansion Plan of Amsterdam (AUP), which was developed in the 1930s when the city of Amsterdam needed to expand, will open at the Stadsarchief in Amsterdam.
The General Extension Plan and its main designer, Cornelis van Eesteren, have been invaluable for the (urban) development of Amsterdam. Four period rooms, corresponding to the years 1935 (design), 1958 (execution), 2000 (restructuring) and 2017 (revaluation), show the drive, passion and decisiveness behind the design and execution of the AUP, but also the opposing forces and the resilience of, for example, its inhabitants. The visitor makes a journey through time and experiences the value of the AUP then and now.
